Being the face of SABC News for more than 20 years, has endowed me with a powerful sense of credibility in the eyes and ears of the South African consumer. Aside from my distinctive role as Prime-time Television News Anchor, for which I have received numerous accolades and awards, it is as brand ambassador of SABC News and Corporate SABC that I have particularly excelled. Being the consummate communicator, I have become a valuable part of the SABC Brand, as well as the SABC’s stakeholder communications strategies. As a broadcasting visionary, with appropriate experience in Radio, Television and Digital Online Media, I am involved in actively formulating strategies to grow the SABC News brand, to increase audience ratings as well as advertising revenue. This entails utilizing market research, analyzing comparative studies of competitor behaviour and practices, and redesigning and refining SABC news productions to increase their competitiveness. Having graduated with an MA in Journalism & Media Studies, from Wits University, I have a strong academic background, and have lectured at a number of tertiary educational institutions, including Universities and Technikons. These were at the departments of English (Vista University), Communication (M L Sultan Technikon), Cultural & Media Studies (Natal University), and Drama (University of Durban-Westville). One of my areas of specialization is Mass Communication. As an academic, I’ve written and presented papers at national and international conferences, facilitated training workshops, convened a museum exhibition and a conference, and authored a series of academic publications.
